How It All Began
Spring 2019
Our journey started in the spring of 2019, when we fell in love with Maine Coons and brought home two brothers from a cattery in Ontario — Spook, a black classic tabby, and Legion, a beautiful blue tabby.
Looking back, we made the mistake many first-time cat owners do: we chose based on price rather than taking the time to research breeders carefully. It was a lesson we never forgot — and one that ultimately shaped the kind of cattery we set out to build.
Spook is still with us today at 7.5 years old and going strong — though not always in the best of health. He has cat asthma, allergies, and a skittish personality that never quite settled. He is absolutely my baby, and he's the reason we recommend health insurance to every family that joins our program.
In Memoriam
Legion
Legion was adventurous, bold, and completely fearless — a free spirit in every sense. In April 2020, living very rurally in Saskatchewan, he slipped out one evening and was never seen again. We believe he was taken by a coyote. His loss left a mark on us that still lingers. We carry him with us in the love and care we put into every cat and every family in our program.

The Program Begins
Ivan & Ember
In 2021, we brought home our first true breeding pair: Ivan, imported from Russia, and Ember, from a respected cattery in British Columbia. They grew up together in our home, bonded beautifully, and became exceptional examples of the breed.
Ivan — a striking black smoke — and Ember — a gorgeous black tortie — gave us our foundation litters and taught us what this breed is truly capable of in health, temperament, and type.
Ivan has since retired and lives happily with his son Arty in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. Ember retired from the program in spring 2024. We miss them in the cattery, but they are deeply loved in their forever homes.

The People Behind the Cattery
Meet the Family
Fluff N' Tuffs is primarily run by Steph, with her husband working quietly behind the scenes — keeping the cattery clean, well-maintained, and running smoothly. It truly is a family operation, even if the cats get most of the credit.
We are based in Rabbit Lake, Saskatchewan — a small, quiet community northwest of Saskatoon. Our cats are not in a separate room or kennel. They have full run of the house and are very much a part of our daily lives.
Our cats don't stay home when we travel — all of them come with us. For about 3–4 months of the year we're on the road in our RV: summers exploring the prairies, and winter months heading south to warmer weather. The whole crew makes the trip every time.
We also shared our home for many years with Timber, our beloved rough collie — a gentle giant who reminded us that big hearts come in all shapes and species.
